10 ffaith am Gŵylgyfoeth 2018

“Bod yn Fi” – Dathlu Gwahaniaeth

  1. Ym mis Mehefin 2017, cafodd ein ffynhonell fewnol wybodaeth fod cyhoeddwyr David Walliams, HarperCollins, yn cynllunio nifer o ddigwyddiadau arbennig trwy gydol 2018, er anrhydeddu 10 mlynedd o ‘The World of David Walliams’.

  2. Mewn ymateb, mae menter Cyfoethogi Cwricwlwm Gwasanaethau Addysg a Phlant Sir Ddinbych curadodd ei gasgliad eithriadol ei hun ar gyfer Hâf Gwanwyn 2018 – sef dathliad gogoneddus o unigrywrwydd - i nodi pen-blwydd yn ddeg o nofel gyntaf David Walliams, ‘Y Bachgen mewn Ffrog', y llyfr hynod boblogaidd a doniol am fachgen nad yw'n ofni bod yn wahanol!

  3. Ym mis Tachwedd 2017, cawsom “IE” gan David a gwahoddiad personol gan HarperCollins i ymuno â nhw wrth iddynt hyrwyddo rhaglen o gystadlaethau a mentrau ysgol trwy gydol 2018 a rhannu EIN hadnoddau gyda nhw yn y flwyddyn ddathlu hon. 

  4. Yn dilyn rhagolwg rhyfeddol hwn o’r hwyl fydd ar gael, cafodd Gwylgyfoeth 2018 ei lansio'n ffurfiol ym mis Chwefror 2018, ac yn gaddo’r fath wledd o weithgareddau trawsgwricwlaidd cyffrous i ysgolion Sir Ddinbych am unigolrwydd ac amrywiaeth yn ei holl ffurfiau. 

  5. Cafodd ein casgliad unigryw ei gynllunio i gefnogi gofynion statudol y cwricwlwm ysgol presennol a gellir ei chyflwyno ar draws llawer o feysydd cwricwlaidd i ysbrydoli'ch myfyrwyr.

  6. Wedi'i lunio ar nofel gyntaf David Walliams, 'Y Bachgen mewn Ffrog’, gan dderbyn ysbrydoliaeth gan awduron eraill i blant a phobl ifanc, gan gynnwys Hans Christian Andersen (‘The Ugly Duckling’), Julia Donaldson (‘Tyrannosaurus Drip’), Jacqueline Wilson (‘Bad Girls’), Rumer Godden (‘The Diddakoi’), RJ Palacio (‘Wonder’) a William Golding (‘Lord of the Flies’), nod Sir Ddinbych yw croesawu a dathlu gwahaniaethau, parchu amrywiaeth, cerdded yn falch a gyda steil a dod yn esiampl i Gymru gyfan wrth wneud hynny.

  7. Efo’n gilydd, cymerasom agwedd plentyn i: -

    • drafod', pinio i lawr a smwddio problemau bach a mawr bywyd mewn ffordd dyfeisgar;

    • rhoi’r modd i unigolion arddangos eu natur unigryw ac arddull unigol;

    • arddangos, fod lle pwysig i’r darn lleiaf a’r darn mwyaf o'r patrwm, i ddathlu pwysigrwydd pob elfen o'r dilledyn terfynol;

    • pwytho’r holl ddarnau at ei gilydd ar gyfer y gosod terfynol;

    • dathlu pa liw, siâp neu unigrywdeb bynnag unrhyw wisg a’r gwaith dylunio sydd y tu ôl i'w creu;

    • lansio a dathlu'r casgliad lliwgar ac amrywiol;

    • camu â balchder ar hyd y rhedfa ffasiynau.

  8. Ym mis Mehefin 2018, gwnaethom  arddangos y casgliad Gwanwyn Hâf 2018, gyda chyfres o ‘Drosfeddiannau T’riffic’, pryd atalodd ysgolion eu hamserlen arferol ar gyfer y diwrnod cyfan.

  9. Ar y dyddiau hynny, llifodd disgyblion yn rhwydd trwy giatiau'r ysgol am ddiwrnod o hwyl sy'n seiliedig ar lenyddiaeth, wedi'u gwisgo ym mha beth bynnag maen nhw am ei wisgo - efallai hyd yn oed un o'u hoff gymeriadau Walliams.

  10. Gan ddefnyddio Celfyddyd Llwyfan a Pherfformiad, cynlluniasom dwy raglen ar wahân, un yn addas ar gyfer plant 5-11 oed ac un ar gyfer plant 11-16 oed.  Ymdrechodd y ddwy raglan i arddangos a dathlu pob math o wahaniaeth ac unigolyniaeth mewn modd creadigol a chynhwysol. 

Top 10 facts about Enrichfest 2018

“Being Me” – Celebrating Difference

  1. In June 2017, our eagle-eyed inside informant had a tip-off that David Walliams’ publishers, HarperCollins, were planning a number of special events throughout 2018, in honour of the 10 year anniversary of ‘The World of David Walliams’.

  2. In response, Denbighshire Education and Children’s Services’ Curriculum Enrichment initiative curated its own extraordinary 2018 Spring Summer collection – a glorious celebration of individuality - to mark the 10th anniversary of David Walliams’ debut novel, ‘The Boy in the Dress’, the hilarious bestseller about a boy who isn’t afraid to be different!

  3. In November 2017, we had a “YES” from David and a personal invitation from HarperCollins to join them in promoting a programme of school competitions and initiatives throughout 2018 and to share OUR resources with them in this celebration year. 

  4. Following a tantalising preview of its delights, Enrichfest 2018 was formally launched in February 2018, promising Denbighshire schools an exciting cross-curricular spectacle of individuality and diversity in all its forms.

  5. Our exclusive collection was designed to support the statutory requirements of the current school curriculum and could be delivered across many curricular areas to inspire students.

  6. Modelled on David Walliams’ debut novel, ‘The Boy in the Dress’, and drawing inspiration from other writers for children and young people, including Hans Christian Andersen (‘The Ugly Duckling’), Julia Donaldson (‘Tyrannosaurus Drip’), Jacqueline Wilson (‘Bad Girls’), Rumer Godden (‘The Diddakoi’), RJ Palacio (‘Wonder’) and William Golding (‘Lord of the Flies’),  Denbighshire’s aim was to embrace and celebrate differences, respect diversity, walk the catwalk, strut our stuff with aplomb and become Wales’ exemplar. 

  7. Together, we took a child’s eye-view to:-

    • ad-‘dress’, pin down and iron out life’s big and little creases in an inventively ‘sew-sew’ way;

    • accessorise and encloak participants to display their uniqueness and individual style;

    • showcase, from the smallest to the largest, tailor-made piece of the pattern, to celebrate the importance of each component of the final garment;

    • sew all the pieces together for a final fitting;

    • celebrate whatever colour, shape or uniqueness of any outfit and the design work taken to create them;

    • launch and celebrate the colourful and diverse collection;

    • stride with pride and take off on the runway.

  8. ​In June 2018,In June 2018, we showcased the 2018 Spring Summer collection with a series of ‘T’riffic Takeover Days’, when schools suspended their normal timetable for the day.

  9. On those days, pupils gleefully streamed through their school gates for a day of literature-based fun, dressed in whatever they wanted to wear – maybe even as one of their favourite Walliams characters.

  10. Using Stagecraft & Performance, we designed two separate programmes, one suitable for 5-11-year olds and one for 11-16-year olds.  Both programmes endeavoured to showcase and celebrate all types of difference and individuality in a creative and inclusive way.

Am ddiwrnod blasus tu hwnt! Ymwelwyd ag un ar bymtheg o Ysgolion Sir Ddinbych mewn taith o gwmpas y Sir ar frys gan un o hoff gymeriadau llyfrau David Walliams, fel rhan o brosiect Gwylgyfoeth 2018 eleni, wrth i ni ddathlu 10 mlynedd ers i awdur plant mwyaf poblogaidd y DU, sef David Walliams, gychwyn ysgrifennu.

 

Mae Mrs Trafe (mewn gwirionedd yr actor Stuart Loughland), un o gymeriadau’r llyfr y ‘Billionaire Boy’, a ddisgrifir gan Walliams fel "cogydd ysgol ffiaidd, sy’n aml yn arlwyo prydau bwyd afiach", gydai "safonau hylendid ddiffygiol", yn difyrru plant wrth ddatgelu rhai prydau arbennig fydd yn cael eu cyflwyno yn neuaddau cinio ysgolion Sir Ddinbych fis Mehefin 2018, gan gynnwys 'Road-Kill Bake', 'Deep-fried Cardboard' a 'Slice of Sweat Cake', cyn iddi ddosbarthu bisgedi sinsir (nifer cyfartal o ferched a bechgyn).

 

Mae menter Cyfoethogi Cwricwlwm Sir Ddinbych wedi trefnu cystadleuaeth ysgolion gyffrous trwy gydol mis Mehefin 2018, o dan y teitl ‘David's Dunkin' Delights’ - “Addurnwch eich bisgedi sinsir a’u gwneud yn Hardd”… lle gall 1,460 disgybl drwy’r Sir oedran 5-7archwilio a datblygu sgiliau pwrpasol ac ymarferol ac ymhyfrydu mewn  addurno eu bisgedi sinsir, a’u gwisgo mewn unrhyw fodd yn ol eu dymuniad - hyd yn oed modd a ysbrydolwyd gan un o'u hoff gymeriadau o lyfrau Walliams.

 

Mae'r gystadleuaeth yn cael ei noddi a'i feirniadu gan The Pudding Compartment Ltd, Fflint, gyda chymorth 'The Walliams Gang', y tîm creadigol sydd y tu ôl i brosiect eleni.

'The Great Gingerbread Gallop'

- a truly taste-bud tickling day!

What a truly taste-bud tickling day!  Sixteen Denbighshire Schools were visited in a whirlwind county tour by one of David Walliams’ favourite book characters, as part of this year’s Enrichfest 2018 project, celebrating 10 years of the UK’s No. 1 best-selling children’s author, David Walliams. 

Mrs Trafe (aka actor Stuart Loughland), a character from ‘Billionaire Boy’, described by Walliams as “an abominable school cook, often serving up monstrous concoctions”, whose “standards of hygiene are sorely lacking”, delighted the children by revealing some dishes that will be served up in Denbighshire’s school canteens throughout June 2018, including ‘Road-Kill Bake’, ‘Deep Fried Cardboard’ and ‘Slice of Sweat Cake’, before distributing gingerbread biscuits (girls and boys).

 

Denbighshire’s Curriculum Enrichment initiative has organised an exciting schools’ competition throughout June 2018, entitled ‘David’s Dunkin’ Delights’ – “Ginger up your biscuit and make it Beautiful”, where 1,460 pupils aged 5-7, can explore and develop purposeful and practical skills and delight in decorating their gingerbread biscuits, dressed in whatever they want their characters to wear – maybe even inspired by one of their favourite Walliams’ characters.

 

The competition is being sponsored and judged by The Pudding Compartment Ltd, Flint, assisted by ‘The Walliams Gang’, the creative team behind this year’s project.

“If you have a story to tell, this is how to tell it”.

Dyfeisiodd menter Cyfoethogi Cwricwlwm Gwasanaethau Addysg a Gwasanaethau Plant Sir Ddinbych gynllun peilot fis Gorffennaf 2017, o dan yr enw "Let's make a Movie", gan wahodd un o sgriptwyr sgrin mwyaf medrus y DU ym myd ffilm a theledu, sef  Jimmy McGovern, i roi dosbarth meistr mewn sgriptio sgrin, yn Ysgol Uwchradd Bendigaid Edward Jones, Y Rhyl (Tachwedd 2017).

 

Ein prif bartner yn y prosiect peilot yw cwmni elusennol TAPE Community Film and Music.  Dydd Mawrth 24 Ebrill 2018, daeth y gwneuthurwr ffilm Andy Turner i arwain  disgyblion ysgolion  uwchradd ledled Sir Ddinbych i gwrdd â'r her a osodwyd gan Jimmy McGovern, sef sgriptio a gwneud ffilm fer. Nod y Gweithdy Awduron Ifanc oedd gorffen y diwrnod gyda drafft cyntaf o ddrama sgrin wreiddiol.

 

 

Gan ddilyn strategaeth awgrymedig Andy ar gyfer ysgrifennu eu ffilm, gwnaeth yr awduron ifanc: -

  1. Ddatblygu fân syniad ;

  2. Archwilio'r strwythur;

  3. Diffinio eu byd, eu cymeriad a'u problem;

  4. Gweithio allan sut i ddatblygu’r stori (mae “beating” yn hen ddywediad o Hollywood, a ddefnyddir i ddisgrifio'r broses o weithio allan stori); ac yna

  5. Ysgrifennu drafft cyntaf.

 

Roedd y cydweithrediad rhwng myfyrwyr a'u mentor, Andy Turner, yn ysbrydoledig a diddorol iawn, gyda'r pwyslais ar gynhwysiad, gan rannu'r broses greadigol o ysgrifennu a chreu stori fer, llawn cymhelliad, ar gyfer y sgrin.

 

Wrth gyflwyno'r awduron ifanc i'r syniad o "ddrama wedi’i arwain gan bwnc dadleuol", cyflwynodd Andy Turner gymeriadau realistig a pherthnasol iddynt a’u harwain i lunio a chreu stori fer a oedd yn adlewyrchu rhyw agwedd ar fywydau pobl ifanc yn eu harddegau heddiw, er enghraifft , ‘…mae merch yn edrych drwy ei negeseuon text ar ei ffôn…’ - effaith technoleg ar fywydau pobl ifanc.

 

Diolch Jimmy McGovern, am ysbrydoli’r drafft gyntaf, am alluogi ymgorffori'r angerdd a'r syniadau a ysbrydolodd y rhai a gymerodd ran yn eich dosbarth meistr a gwneud iddynt deimlo’r angen i rannu eu stori gyda chynulleidfa.

 

Mae ail ddrafft i dilyn, ac yna trydydd. Mae'n debyg, os fydd rhywun, efallai ein cydweithwyr, actorion, gweithredwyr camera, cynhyrchwyr, neu efallai Jimmy McGovern ei hun, yn ei hoffi, yna byddwn yn gallu ei wneud yn ffilm ... ond stori arall yw hynny!...

Denbighshire Education and Children’s Services’ Curriculum Enrichment initiative devised a pilot project in July 2017, called “Let’s make a Movie”, inviting one of the UK’s most accomplished screenwriters in British film and television, Jimmy McGovern, to give a masterclass in screenwriting, at Blessed Edward Jones RC High School, Rhyl (November 2017). 

Our chief partner in the pilot project is TAPE Community Film and Music and on Tuesday 24 April 2018, filmmaker Andy Turner, guided secondary students from schools across Denbighshire to meet the challenge laid down by Jimmy McGovern, which is to script and shoot a short film.  The goal of the Young Writers’ Workshop was to finish the day with a first draft of an original screenplay.

 

 

Following Andy’s suggested strategy for writing their film, the young writers:-

  1. Developed a small idea;

  2. Explored the structure;

  3. Defined their world, character and problem;

  4. Beat it out (“Beating” is an old Hollywood term, used to describe the process of working out the storyline); and

  5. Wrote the first draft.

 

The collaboration between students and their mentor, Andy Turner, was profoundly inspiring and engaging, with its emphasis on inclusion, sharing the creative process of writing and crafting a compelling short story for the screen.

 

Introducing the young writers to the idea of “issue-led drama”, Andy Turner skilfully acquainted them with real, relatable and relevant characters and guided them to shape and craft a short story that reflected some aspect of the lives of teenagers today, for example, ‘…a girl scrolls her texts...’ - the impact of technology on the lives of young people.

 

Thanks Jimmy McGovern, first draft penned, embodying the passion and ideas that inspired those who took part in your masterclass and who feel compelled to share their story with an audience.

 

Second draft to follow, then third.  Chances are someone, whether it’s our collaborators, actors, camera operators, producers, even Jimmy McGovern himself, will like it, then we’ll be able to make it… but that’s another story!...

Denbighshire Schools Battle of the Bands 2018

‘Nawr yn ei drydedd flwyddyn, yn ei newydd wedd, o dan faner Cyfoethogi'r Cwricwlwm Sir Ddinbych, fe welodd cystadleuaeth Brwydr y Bandiau Ysgolion Sir Ddinbych 2018 19 o blant a phobl ifanc yn mynd i'r llwyfan yn Theatr Twm o’r Nant, Dinbych, ddydd Gyn wener 16 Mawrth 2018, 6-8yh, ar gyfer beth oedd yn noson wych o roc a rol'!

 

Gyda gwobrau unigol yn cael eu cynnig, ynghyd â chyfle i'r enillydd cyffredinol recordio ychydig o ganeuon mewn stiwdio recordio broffesiynol, roedd gan bob artist / band gyfle i berfformio dau gân i wneud argraff ar y beirniaid.

 

Yn gyntaf, Sasha-Leigh, yn cynrychioli Ysgol Uwchradd y Rhyl, i osod naws y noson gyda'i pherfformiadau da iawn o 'Chandelier' gan Sia a ‘We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off’ gan Ella Eyre.

 

Yna, yn null Freddy Mercury a Queen, daeth y soloydd Alfie Thomas i gynrychioli Ysgol Dinas Brân, Llangollen, a chael y gynulleidfa i guro dwylo a chanu gyda’i gyflwyniadau parchus o 'Seven Seas of Rhye' a 'Hammer to Fall' gan Queen.

Wedyn cawsom y band roc OZT, i gynrychioli Ysgol Uwchradd Y Rhyl i ganu dau gan sef- 'All Along the Watchtower' gan Jimi Hendrix a 'Seven Nation Army' gan The White Stripes - roedd y pedwarawd talentog yn swnio fel y buont wedi bod yn chwarae ers blynyddoedd, er mai dim ond ers ychydig fisoedd,

 

Yna cawsom y grŵp merched ffasiynol eu golwg Melodix, o Ysgol Uwchradd Y Rhyl, yn cyfuno cymysgedd unigryw o gitâr acwstig, drymiau a phedwar llais benywaidd. Wrth ddwyn atgofion am grwpiau benywaidd o ansawdd uchaf yn y gorffennol, fe wnaeth perfformiad Melodix ysgogi'r gynulleidfa drwy gyflwyno 'Closer' gan Halsey a 'I Won’t Give Up' gan Jason Mraz.

 

Perfformiodd y band mwyaf ac hefyd yr un ieuengaf ar y noson oedd gan Y Bygs, o Ysgol Brynhyfryd ac Ysgol Pen Barras. Cawsom rai caneuon cerddorol clasurol ganddynt. Roedd aelodau’r band yn cynnwys drymiwr, lleisydd llafar a thair gitâr, Roedd y band yn plesio’r gynulleidfa gyda set fywiog gan gynnwys 'Yellow' gan Coldplay a 'Can’t Stop' gan y Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

 

I gloi’r gystadleuaeth, cawsom tipyn o ‘fetal’ gyda The Kranks, sef band tair darn o Ysgol Dinas Bran, â’u cerddoriaeth ‘head banging’, sef 'Go With The Flow' gan Queens Of The Stone Age a ‘Should I stay or should I go’ gan The Clash wrth iddynt greu un o berfformiadau gorau'r noson.

Y farn gyffredinol gan bawb oedd yn bresennol, - ein bod wedi gweld a chlywed talent wych.

Now into its third year, in its new format under the Denbighshire Curriculum Enrichment banner, Denbighshire Schools Battle Of The Bands 2018 competition saw nineteen children and young people take to the stage at Theatr Twm o’r Nant, Denbigh, on Friday 16 March 2018, 6-8pm, for what was a rock ‘n rollin’ great night!

With individual prizes up for grabs, alongside an opportunity for the overall winner to put down a few tracks in a professional recording studio, each artist/band had two songs each to impress the judges. 

 

First up, vocalist Sasha-Leigh, representing Rhyl High School, who set the tone for the evening with her accomplished performances of Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ and Ella Eyre’s ‘We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off ‘.

 

Favouring the Freddy Mercury and Queen approach, soloist Alfie Thomas, representing Ysgol Dinas Brân, Llangollen, upped the ante by getting the crowd clapping and singing along with his respectful renditions of Queen’s ‘Seven Seas of Rhye’ and ‘Hammer to Fall’.

 

On-trend OZT, representing Rhyl High School, meanwhile, looked every inch the part of a rock band.  Playing two musical numbers – ‘All Along the Watchtower’ by Jimi Hendrix and ‘Seven Nation Army’ by The White Stripes – the talented quartet sounded like they had been playing for years, despite having only been together for a couple of months,

 

Fashionable looking Melodix, an all-girl band from Rhyl High School, conjured up a unique mix of acoustic guitar, drums and four female-led vocals.  Reminiscent of the highest quality female groups in recent times, Melodix’s performance charmed the audience with their harmonious renditions of ‘Closer’ by Halsey and ‘I Won’t Give Up’ by Jason Mraz.

 

The biggest and youngest band of the night, Y Bygs, representing Ysgol Brynhyfryd and Ysgol Pen Barras, displayed some classic musical numbers.  Comprising drummer, lead-vocalist and three guitarists, the band delighted the audience with an upbeat set including ‘Yellow’ by Coldplay and ‘Can't Stop’ by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Putting their collective pedal to the metal, Ysgol Dinas Bran’s The Kranks, a three piece band, brought some head banging music to proceedings, turbo-charging through ‘Go With The Flow’ by Queens Of The Stone Age and ‘Should I stay or should I go’ by The Clash and krank-ing up one of the evening’s best performances.  .

Overall then, a fantastic showcase of talent.

Yn dilyn ymweliadau llwyddiannus gan Gadeirydd Cyngor Sir Ddinbych i ysgolion sy'n cymryd rhan ym Menter Mentora Darllen Sir Ddinbych ar ddiwedd Tymor yr Hydref 2017, dywedodd y Cynghorydd Pete Prendergast y byddai'n hoffi dychwelyd i ymweld a’r ysgolion yn nhymor y Gwanwyn 2018 i rannu ei gariad at ddarllen gyda nhw.

 

Ar ôl edrych am ffordd hwyliog o ddathlu Diwrnod y Llyfr 2018 a chyflawniadau darllen rhai o'n darllenwyr ifanc yn ein hysgolion, cafwyd cyfres o ymweliadau ysgol 'Reach Out And Read' ('ROAR'), menter Cyfoethogi Cwricwlwm Sir Ddinbych, lle rhoddodd y Cadeirydd amser o’i amserlen brysur i rannu ei gariad at ddarllen, adrodd straeon, siarad am lyfrau a'i rôl fel Cadeirydd y Cyngor, yn ogystal â chyflwyno rhai llyfrau Diwrnod Llyfr y Byd 2018 oedd yn rhad ac am ddim.

 

Yn ystod un diwrnod ysgol cyfan, ymwelodd y Cadeirydd â saith ysgol i ddiddannu ac ysbrydoli oddeutu 253 o blant gyda'i drwy gyfleu ei gariad at ddarllen ac adrodd straeon. Gan ddefnyddio ei hoff awdur pan oedd ef ei hun yn blentyn - Enid Blyton a’I llyfr 'Five go to Treasure Island', dewisodd y Cynghorydd Prendergast ddarllen o 'The Orchard Book of Aesop's Fables', gan ddod â'r ffablau yn fyw drwy sgrifennu hwyliog Michael Morpurgo a darluniau hardd Emma Chichester Clark . Siaradodd y Cynghorydd Prendergast am bŵer straeon - sut maent yn rhoi pleser, yn swyno, yn dysgu, yn ysbrydoli, yn ysgogi ac weithiau'n herio ni; sut maent yn ein helpu i ddeall a sut maent yn argraffu lluniau yn ein meddyliau.

 

Roedd hi mor braf gweld wynebau'r plant pan roddodd hefyd bwndeli bach o lyfrau I’r ysgolion I ddathlu Diwrnod y Llyfr 2018 I’w darllen - ymweliad maen nhw'n siŵr o gofio amdanynt am amser maith.

Following the Chair of Denbighshire County Council’s successful visits to schools participating in Denbighshire’s Reading Mentoring Initiative at the end of the Autumn Term 2017, Councillor Pete Prendergast said that he would like to pay a return visit to the schools in the Spring term 2018 to share his own love of reading with them. 

Having looked at a fun way of celebrating World Book Day 2018 and the reading achievements of some of our young readers in our schools, Denbighshire’s Curriculum Enrichment initiative came up with a series of ‘Reach Out And Read’ (‘ROAR’) school visits, where the Chair took time out his busy schedule to share his love of reading, storytelling, talking about books and his role as Chair of the Council, as well as delivering some free World Book Day 2018 books.

Over the course of a school day, the Chair visited seven schools and delighted and inspired approximately 253 children with his love of reading and storytelling.   Drawing on his favourite childhood author and book - Enid Blyton’s ‘Five go to Treasure Island’, Councillor Prendergast chose to read from ‘The Orchard Book of Aesop’s Fables’, bringing the fables to life through Michael Morpurgo’s joyful writing and Emma Chichester Clark’s beautiful illustrations.   Councillor Prendergast spoke about the power of stories – how they delight, enchant, teach, inspire, motivate and sometimes challenge us; how they help us to understand and how they imprint pictures in our minds. 

It was such a delight to see the children’s faces when he also gifted the schools little bundles of World Book Day 2018 books to read – a visit they are sure to remember for a long time.

Pan enillodd Ethan Gordon, disgybl Blwyddyn 6 yn Ysgol Gymunedol Bodnant, Prestatyn, gystadleuaeth ffilm fer o'r enw 'Harry-tage' fel rhan o raglen Gŵylgyfoeth 2017 menter Cyfoethogi Cwricwlwm Sir Ddinbych, gan ddathlu 20fed pen-blwydd cyhoeddi 'Harry Potter a Maen yr Athronydd ', ychydig a feddyliodd ar y pryd y byddai’n hawlio ar gyfer ei 58 gyd-ddisgyblion dosbarth un-dydd gydag Academi Ffilmiau Ifanc, Llundain.

 

 

Academi Ffilmiau Ifanc, Llundain, yw prif ddarparwr rhaglenni cynhyrchu ffilmiau ymarferol i bobl ifanc 8-18 oed.

 

Yn ystod y diwrnod cyffrous, dysgodd y gwneuthurwyr ffilmiau ifanc sut i wneud eu ffilmiau byr eu hunain. Fe ddysgon nhw hefyd am hanes ffilm a mwynhasant weithdy ar sut i goreograffu golygfa ymladd, a oedd yn ddefnyddiol ar gyfer eu gwaith eu hunain yn hwyrach yn y dydd. Darganfyddodd y disgyblion sut i ddefnyddio camera a'r termau technegol ar gyfer gwahanol fathau o dynnu llun symudol wrth gnhyrchu ffilmiau. Gan weithio mewn grwpiau bach, fe wnaeth y disgyblion lunio sgript sgrin deg olygfa, a ffilmiwyd ganddynt dros y prynhawn. Nid yn unig y daeth y disgyblion yn actorion ffilm ond hefyd yn aelodau o’r ‘criw’, yn gyfarwyddwr a chynhyrwyr camera, gan gydweithio i ffilmio eu ffilm fer.

Daeth y diwrnod i ben gyda sgrinio arbennig o'r wyth ffilm fer, ac yna seremoni wobrwyo 'Oscars'.

 

Roedd y ffordd fedrus y bu'r tiwtoriaid - Ed Boase a Ben Maier – yn ymgysylltu â phob cyfranogwr yn rhyfeddol iawn. Pa mor wych oedd hi i bawb a gymerodd rhan, hyd yn oed y rheiny nad oeddent efallai yn or-hyderus am gymeryd rhan, yn cael yr hyder wedyn i roi cynnig arni.

 

Does dim amheuaeth y bydd plant a gymerodd rhan yn yr Ysgol Ffilm Un-Dydd yn cael eu hysbrydoli gan gelfyddyd ffilm a sut y cafodd ei gyflwyno, i ymestyn eu diddordeb yn ddyfnach i fyd hudolus y sinema.  Pwy a ŵyr pa hadau sydd wedi'u hau ym Mhrestatyn ar gyfer y dyfodol o ran gwneud ffilmiau?

 

Fel dywedodd yr awdur sgriptiau ffilm, cyfarwyddwr a chynhyrchydd ffilmiau enwog Brydeinig Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Love Actually, ac About Time), “Ni allai fy meibion fod wedi bod yn hapusach wrth gael y cyfle i weithio gydag Academi Ffilm Ifanc ac erbyn hyn mae'n ymddangos bod ganddynt fwy o wybodaeth am wneud ffilmiau nag sydd gennyf i”.

One Day Film School

When Ethan Gordon, a Year 6 pupil at Bodnant Community School, Prestatyn, won a short film competition entitled ‘Harry-tage’ as part of Denbighshire Curriculum Enrichment initiative’s Enrichfest 2017 programme, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the publication of ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, little did he realise that his prize would entitle not only him but his 58 classmates to an amazing whirlwind One Day Film School with Young Film Academy, London.

 

Young Film Academy, London, is the UK’s leading provider of practical filmmaking programmes to young people aged 8-18. 

 

During the course of the exciting day, the young filmmakers learned how to make their own silent short films.  They also learned about the history of film and enjoyed a workshop on how to choreograph a fight scene, which was useful for their own work later in the day. The pupils discovered how to use a camera and the technical terms for various types of shot in filmmaking.  Working in small groups, the pupils put together a ten-shot screenplay which they then filmed over the course of the afternoon. The pupils not only became the film’s actors but were also the camera crew, director and producer, working together to film their short film.

 

The day ended with a special screening of all eight short films, followed by an ‘Oscars’ award ceremony.

 

The skilful way in which the tutors – Ed Boase and Ben Maier - engaged each participant was truly remarkable.  How satisfying it was for all concerned that even those who perhaps weren’t confident enough at first to make a contribution, were given the confidence to have a go.

 

No doubt there will be children having taken part in the One Day Film School who will be inspired by the art of film and how it was presented, to delve a little deeper in to the magical world of cinema.  Who knows what seeds may have been sown in Prestatyn for the future as regards film-making?   

As eminent British screenwriter, producer and film director, Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary, Love Actually, and About Time) rightly says, “My sons couldn't have had a happier time with Young Film Academy and now seem to know more about film making than I do”.

Mae gan Ysgol Dinas Brân, Llangollen, draddodiad hir a balch o Theatr Gerdd, gan berfformio'n  i gynulleidfaoeddfawr dros y blynyddoeddyn Nyffryn yr Afon Ddyfrdwy.  Dros y chwe mis diwethaf, mae cast ifanc talentog wedi bod yn gweithio ar Les Misérables (Argraffiad arbennig ar gyfer ysgolion), eu cynhyrchiad mwyaf uchelgeisiol hyd yn hyn, wedi'i lwyfannu gan ddisgyblion yr ysgol.

 

Mae stori gerdd epig Boublil a Schonberg am freuddwydion, angerdd ac adbryniad wedi’u chwalu, gyda Chwyldro Ffrainc a’r 19eg Ganrif yn y cefndir, yn sioe gerdd arbennig o heriol i leisiau ifanc, ac yn ddarn mor ddwys a dramatig.

Oherwydd yi gofynion hynod galed ar alluoedd canu ac actio, mae Les Misérables yn gamp i fedru ei berfformio'n fedrus i ysgolion uwchradd ond mae'r cast ifanc hwn, sy’n niferu  60, yn barod i ymgymeryd a phob her yn eu perfformiadau chwyldroadol (Dydd Mawrth 20 - Dydd Gwener 23 Chwefror 2018).  Yn wir, mae'r ysgol yn rhoi cyfle i ddigon o berfformwyr i flodeuo a gwneud hynny, trwy gael gwahanol unawdwyr i chwarae rhannau blaenllaw ar bob un o'r pedair noson.

Er mwyn helpu i roi sglein terfynol i'r hyn sy'n addo i fod yn gynhyrchiad rhagorol, Ddydd Gwener 26 Ionawr 2018, cynhaliodd Ysgol Dinas Brân, Llangollen, mewn partneriaeth â menter Cyfoethogi Cwricwlwm Sir Ddinbych, weithdy i roi cipolwg i fyfyrwyr am hanes y sioe gerdd 'Les Misérables' a'r crefft llwyfan a ddefnyddir yn ystod y perfformiad. Yn nwylo profiadol Rob Houchen, Actor Theatr Gerddorol, a ddaeth yn fyw y cymeriad anhygoel, Marius, yn Les Misérables yn y West End, ni allent gael eu haddysgu'n well.  

"Mae wedi bod yn gwbl anhygoel cael ein dysgu gan rywun sydd wedi bod yn Les Misérables yn y West End," meddai un aelod cast ifanc.  "Roedd yn wirioneddol ‘cool’ cael Rob i’n helpu ni.  Mae'n gwerthfawrogi'r ffordd yr ydym wedi paratoi.  Rydym yn falch iawn o'n hunain".

Dywedodd Elin Parry, Pennaeth Drama, sy'n arwain y cynhyrchiad ysgol, "Dyma'r sioe fwyaf yr ydym erioed wedi'i wneud.  Teimlwn ein bod yn barod i fynd i'r afael â her Les Misérables.  Mae wedi bod yn slog caled a chwe mis o ymarferion dwys ond ni allaf fod yn fwy balch o'r cast, y criw a’r cerddorion ".

Ychwanegodd Ms Neal, Pennaeth Cerddoriaeth, "Mae hi wedi bod yn breuddwyd erioed i wneud y cynhyrchiad hwn; mae gan y gerddoriaeth y pŵer i ddod â'n dagrau i'r gynulleidfa. Roedd yn gyfle amhrisiadwy i'n myfyrwyr weithio gyda Rob".

"Rydw i wedi fy synnu gan y talent yn yr ysgol ac wrth iddynt fynd ati gyda chynhyrchiad mor gymhleth, meddai Rob Houchen, “Rwy'n siŵr y bydd yn gynhyrchiad i'w gofio ac rwy'n edrych ymlaen at ddarllen adolygiadau gwych amdano".

Un peth yn sicr, ni fydd unrhyw "Gadeiriau Gwag wrth Fyrddau Gwag" yn unrhyw un o’r perfformiadau yn Ysgol Dinas Brân!

Exclusive Musical Theatre Workshop

Ysgol Dinas Brân, Llangollen, has a long and proud tradition of Musical Theatre, performing to audiences in the Dee Valley to great acclaim.  Over the past six months, a talented young cast has been working on Les Misérables (School Edition), the most ambitious production to date, staged by the school. 

Boublil and Schonberg’s epic musical tale of broken dreams, passion and redemption, set against the 19th century backdrop of the French nation, in the grip of revolution, is a particularly challenging musical for young voices, being such an intense and dramatic piece.

 

Due to its formidable singing and acting requirements, Les Misérables is a feat to perform skilfully at high school level but this 60-strong young cast are getting ready to surpass all challenges in their revolutionary performances (Tuesday 20 – Friday 23 February 2018).  Indeed, the school is giving plenty of blossoming performers a chance to do so, by having different soloists playing certain major parts, on each of the four nights.

 

To help put the final touches to what promises to be an outstanding production, on Friday 26 January 2018, Ysgol Dinas Brân, Llangollen, in partnership with Denbighshire’s Curriculum Enrichment initiative, hosted a workshop, to give students an insight into the history of the musical ‘Les Misérables’ and the stagecraft used during the performance.  And in the very experienced hands of Rob Houchen, Musical Theatre Actor, who brought to life the timeless character, Marius, in the West End’s Les Misérables, they could not have been better taught. 

“It’s been absolutely amazing being taught by someone who’s actually been in Les Misérables in the West End”, said one young cast member. “It been really cool because Rob has really helped us.  He appreciates the way we’re doing it.  We’re really proud of ourselves”.

Elin Parry, Head of Drama, who is directing the school production said, “This is the biggest show we’ve ever done.  We felt that we were ready to tackle the challenge of Les Misérables.  It’s been a hard slog and six months of intensive rehearsals but I couldn’t be prouder of the cast, crew and musicians”. 

Ms Neal Head of Music added, "It has always been my dream to do this production; the music has the power to bring our audience to tears. It was an invaluable opportunity for our students to work with Rob".

“I’ve been amazed by the talent in the school at taking on a complex production”, said Rob Houchen, “I’m sure it will be a production to remember and I look forward to reading rave reviews”. 

One thing’s for certain, there'll be no "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" at any of Ysgol Dinas Brân’s performances!

RHAGFYR 2017

Dyma’r tymor i ddathlu darllen

Bydd pedwar ar hugain o ddarllenwyr lwcus yn ysgolion Sir Ddinbych wedi derbyn ymweliad syrpreis gan Gadeirydd Cyngor Sir Ddinbych, y Cynghorydd Pete Prendergast.  Roedd deryn bach o Adran Cyfoethogi’r Cwricwlwm Sir Ddinbych wedi dweud wrtho fod yna rai darllenwyr ifanc ardderchog yn ein hysgolion ac ’roedd am weld iddo fo’i hun pa mor dda oedden nhw.

 

Erbyn hyn mae Menter Mentora Darllen Sir Ddinbych yn ei bedwaredd flwyddyn lwyddiannus.  Ni fyddai’n bosibl ei gynnal heb gymorth tîm o wirfoddolwyr ymroddedig.  Mae'r Fenter yn helpu trwy gefnogi plant a phobl ifanc drwy ennyn ynddynt well agwedd, mwynhad a hyder drwy ddarllen.  Y tymor hwn cafwyd ystod eang o awduron poblogaidd gan gynnwys David Walliams, Jacqueline Wilson, Jeff Kinney a Julia Donaldson i enwi dim ond rhai ohonynt.

 

Cafodd y Cynghorydd Prendergast hwyl fawr wrth fynd yn ôl i'r ysgol a chymryd ei  sedd fel Mentor Darllen gwirfoddol ei hun yn ystod ei ymweliadau ysgol hynod ddisgwyliedig a gwerthfawr.  Hefyd cyflwynodd tystysgrifau a gynlluniwyd yn arbennig i gydnabod cyflawniadau'r darllenwyr ynghyd ag anrheg o lyfr, a roddwyd yn garedig iawn gan gadwyn o siopau llyfrau blaenllaw y DU.

Dymunodd y Cynghorydd Prendergast yn dda i’r plant gyda'u darllen dros y Nadolig ac yn y Flwyddyn Newydd a dywedodd ei fod yn awyddus i glywed am eu eu cynnydd.

’Tis the season to celebrate reading

Twenty-four lucky readers in Denbighshire schools received a surprise visit by the Chair of Denbighshire County Council, Councillor Pete Prendergast. A little bird in Denbighshire Curriculum Enrichment had told him that there were some wonderful young readers in our schools and he wanted to see at first-hand how good they really were.

 

Denbighshire’s Reading Mentoring initiative is now in its fourth successful year and could not possibly take place without the help of a team of dedicated volunteers. The initiative helps by supporting children and young people to have an improved attitude, enjoyment and confidence when it comes to reading. The range of popular authors covered this term includes David Walliams, Jacqueline Wilson, Jeff Kinney and Julia Donaldson to name but a few.

 

Councillor Prendergast thoroughly enjoyed going back to school and taking the hot seat as a volunteer Reading Mentor himself during his hugely anticipated and rewarding school visits. He also presented specially designed certificates to recognise the readers’ achievements and the gift of a book, kindly donated by a leading UK wide high street chain of booksellers.

Councillor Prendergast wished the children well with their reading over Christmas and into the New Year and told them that he would be keenly following their progress. 

Cystadleuaeth Arlunio Ysgolion Sir Ddinbych 2018 - Lansiad Swyddogol

Anogir disgyblion mewn ysgolion ar draws Sir Ddinbych i fod yn greadigol fel rhan o gystadleuaeth arlunio newydd sbon sy'n cael ei drefnu i ddathlu 100 mlynedd ers geni’r artist enwog, Syr Kyffin Williams. 

Roedd Syr Kyffin yn arlunydd tirwedd Cymreig a oedd yn byw yn Llanfairpwll ac fe'i hystyrir yn eang fel artist sy'n diffinio Cymru yn ystod yr 20fed ganrif. 

Nod y gystadleuaeth, a drefnir gan fenter Cyfoethogi Cwricwlwm Cyngor Sir Ddinbych, yw annog plant i fynegi eu hunain yn greadigol, gan annog rhyddid mynegiant ac angerdd am arlunio. 

Mae yna dri chategori, pob un â thema wahanol. Mae'r pwyslais ar sgiliau techneg, arsylwi a dehongli.  Bydd y beirniaid yn dyfarnu gwobrau am waith sy'n arddangos creadigrwydd a gwreiddioldeb.  Bydd pob ymgais yn cael ei gyflwyno trwy law ysgolion y Sir.

Bydd y gystadleuaeth yn helpu i gychwyn trafodaeth ymysg aelodau dosbarthiadau ysgol am waith arlunio a chelf. Anogir plant 5-7 oed yn y Cyfnod Sylfaen i ystyried gwaith Syr Kyffin Williams, Shani Rhys James a Meirion Ginsberg yn eu hystafelloedd dosbarth, yn seiliedig ar themâu'r portread.  Anifeiliaid ac Adar fydd y thema ar gyfer plant oedran cynradd (7-11), gyda gwaith Syr Kyffin Williams, Gwen John ac Ann Lewis yn cael ei ddefnyddio i ysbrydoli disgyblion. Bydd y gystadleuaeth ar gyfer y myfyrwyr hŷn (11-18) yn edrych ar dirweddau, gan ganolbwyntio ar waith Syr Kyffin Williams, Keith Bowen a Catrin Williams. 

Y dyddiad cau ar gyfer derbyn ceisiadau yw Dydd Gwener 23 Mawrth 2018.

Cyhoeddir yr enillwyr ar 11 Ebrill 2018 a byddant yn cael eu gwahodd i arddangosfa preifat.   Yna bydd gwaith yr enillwyr yn cael ei arddangos yn Neuadd y Sir, Rhuthun, yn ystod Mai 2018.

Denbighshire Schools Art Competition 2018 – Official Launch

Pupils at schools across Denbighshire are urged to get creative as part of a brand-new art competition being arranged to commemorate the 100th birthday of renowned artist Sir Kyffin Williams. 

Sir Kyffin was a Welsh landscape painter who lived at Llanfairpwll and is widely regarded as the defining artist of Wales during the 20th Century. 

The competition, being arranged by Denbighshire County Council’s Curriculum Enrichment initiative, aims to encourage children to express themselves creatively, encouraging freedom of expression and a passion for art. 

There are three categories, each with a different theme.  The emphasis is on skills of technique, observation and interpretation.  Judges will award prizes for work which display creativity and originality.  All entries will be submitted through the county’s schools. 

The competition will help start a classroom discussion around works of art.  Children aged 5-7 in the Foundation Phase will be encouraged to consider the works of Sir Kyffin Williams, Shani Rhys James and Meirion Ginsberg in their classrooms, based on the portrait themes.  Animals and Birds will be the theme for primary age children (7-11), with the work of Sir Kyffin Williams, Gwen John and Ann Lewis being used to inspire pupils.  The competition for the older students (11-18) will look at landscapes, with a focus on the work of Sir Kyffin Williams, Keith Bowen and Catrin Williams. 

The closing date for entries is Friday 23 March 2018

Winners will be announced on 11 April 2018 and will be invited to a private viewing.  The winners’ work will then be on display at County Hall, Ruthin, during May 2018.

Dysgodd myfyrwyr o ysgolion uwchradd o fewn Sir Ddinbych rai o gyfrinachau ysgrifennu sgriptiau a chreu straeon pwerus pan ymwelodd Jimmy McGovern, yr awdur ffilmiau a theledu enwog, ag Ysgol Uwchradd Gatholig YB Edward Jones, Y Rhyl, ddydd Mercher 8 Tachwedd 2017.

 

Mae Jimmy McGovern, yn ddiamheuaeth, yn un o sgriptwyr teledu a ffilmiau mwyaf yn y DU dros yr 20 mlynedd diwethaf.

 

Dros ddwy awr, cynigiodd awdur Broken, Brookside, Cracker, Hillsborough, The Street, Sunday, The Lakes a ffilmiau gwobrwyol fel Priest a Liam, i’r awduron ifanc hyn o bob cwr o'r sir gyfle unwaith mewn oes – sef dosbarth feistr hynod ddiddorol iawn, gan rannu efo nhw ei ffordd unigryw o drafod y broses o ysgrifennu creadigol a sut i ddweud straeon pwerus a pherthnasol, am fywydau go iawn, am berthnasoedd a sefyllfaoedd dynol.

 

Wrth gyflwyno'r ysgrifenwyr ifanc i'r syniad o "ddramau dan arweiniad", roedd Jimmy McGovern yn cyflwyno iddynt gymeriadau go iawn a pherthnasol ac yn eu harwain i lunio a chreu storïau a oedd yn adlewyrchu rhwystredigaeth a phryderon cymaint o bobl ifanc y dyddiau hyn.

Denbighshire secondary school students learnt some of the secrets of script writing and creating powerful storylines when accomplished film and television writer, Jimmy McGovern, visited Blessed Edward Jones RC High School, Rhyl, on Wednesday 8 November 2017.

Jimmy McGovern is without doubt one of the most important TV and film screenwriters to have emerged from the UK over the past 20 years. 

 

Over two hours, the BAFTA-winning writer of Broken, Brookside, Cracker, Hillsborough, The Street, Sunday, The Lakes and award-winning films, Priest and Liam, offered young writers from across the county a once in a lifetime opportunity – a profoundly engaging masterclass, sharing with them his unique take on the creative process of writing and how to tell powerful, relevant, gritty stories about real lives, human relationships and situations.

 

Introducing the young writers to the idea of “issue-led drama”, Jimmy McGovern skilfully acquainted them with real, relatable and relevant characters and guided them to shape and craft stories that reflected the frustrations and anxieties of so many young people. 

Er gwaethaf y cymunedau a'r amgylcheddau anodd y mae'n rhaid i lawer o bobl ifanc eu dioddef, dangosodd Jimmy McGovern i'r myfyrwyr fod yna fodd o fynd i'r afael ag anawsterau bywyd trwy ysgrifennu amdanynt a'u dwyn i'r sgrin. "Os ydych chi'n mynd i ysgrifennu," meddai yn ei acen feddal ‘scouse’, "dylech chi ysgrifennu'r gwir fel y gwelwch chi ef.  Nid yw’r hyn rwy'n ei ysgrifennu yn dderbyniol i bawb, ond dwi'n gwybod am hiliaeth. er enghraifft, oherwydd rwyf wedi ei brofi, rwyf wedi ei deimlo yn y gorffennol.  Ac os wyf innau wedi teimlo rhai o'r pethau hynny, yna mae miliynau o bob eraill wedi gwneud hefyd.  Rwy'n ceisio ysgrifennu am bobl a’u gwendidau a phob dim.  Hefyd, os ydych chi wedi blasu'r holl emosiynau s’n dod i chi mewn bywyd, gallwch wedyn eu trosglwyddo i wahanol sefyllfaoedd ryfeddol wrth sgrifennu amdanynt."

In spite of the communities and difficult environments many young people have to endure, Jimmy McGovern demonstrated to the students that there is a means of addressing life’s difficulties through writing about them and bringing them to the screen. "If you're going to write," he said in a soft scouse accent, "you should write the truth as you see it. What I write is not everybody's cup of tea, but it's my truth.  I know about racism, for example, because I've been there, I've felt it in the past.  And if I've felt some of those things, then millions of people have.  I try to write about people, warts and all.  Besides, if you savour all the emotions you've had in your life, you can transfer them into strange situations."

Pan enillodd myfyrwyr o Ysgol Uwchradd Dinbych ac Ysgol Uwchradd RC y Bendigaid Edward Jones gystadleuaeth ysgrifennu creadigol yn gynharach eleni, o'r enw 'Quirky Quilling' i ddathlu pen-blwydd 'Harry Potter a Maen yr Athronydd', ychydig oedden nhw'n gwybod ar yr adeg honno byddai eu sgwennu dewiniol yn arwain at ddigwyddiad hudol unigryw iawn, yn cynnwys awdur a dramodydd enwog iawn yn ymweld â'u hysgolion.

 

Mae Alan Harris yn ddramodydd gwobrwyadwy enwog o Gymru. Lansiodd ei ddrama 'A Good Night Out in the Valleys' y Theatr Genedlaethol newydd ac mae wedi gweithio gyda chwmnïau theatr ledled y Deyrnas Unedig. Enillodd Wobr Beirniaid Gwobr Bruntwood 2015 am ei ddrama 'How My Light Spent' yn y Royal Exchange, Manceinion. Ysgrifennodd hefyd 'The Opportunity of Efficiency' - y cydweithrediad ryngwladol gyntaf ar gyfer Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru a Theatr Genedlaethol Newydd Tokyo. Mae Alan wedi ysgrifennu sawl drama ar gyfer BBC Radio 4 a Radio 3 ac mae'n rhan o gynllun Stafell Ddrama’r BBC ar gyfer 2017.

 

Ddydd Mercher 18 Hydref 2017, ymunodd myfyrwyr â Alan Harris am gyfres o weithdai ysgrifennu creadigol a rhoddwyd iddynt olwg uniongyrchol i mewn i gyfrinachau y tu ôl i'r broses greadigol.

 

Drwy gydol y gweithdai, anogwyd myfyrwyr i feddwl amdanynt eu hunain fel awduron a darganfod eu lleisiau pwerus, unigryw eu hunain.

 

Nod ac amcan sylfaenol y gweithdai oedd ysgogi meddwl creadigol y myfyrwyr eu hunain a gwella eu harddull a'u sgiliau ysgrifennu eu hunain ac, ar yr un pryd, pwysleisio faint o fwynhad a hwyl y gallant ei gael o'r profiad.

 

Arweiniodd Alan Harris y myfyrwyr yn fedrus trwy gyfres o ymarferion ysgrifennu creadigol mewn ffordd ysgogol a difyr. Roedd y myfyrwyr yn profi arddulliau dysgu deinamig a oedd yn cynnwys perfformiad ac adrodd straeon, ochr yn ochr â gwaith ysgrifenedig, er mwyn eu cyflwyno i elfennau allweddol adeiladu stori. Treuliodd y rhan fwyaf o'u hamser yn rhoi pensil i bapur, gan roi cynnig ar yr holl bethau newydd a ddysgwyd ganddynt. Ar ddiwedd y gweithdai, roedd cyfle gwych i'r tiwtor a'r myfyrwyr rannu darnau o ddetholiad o'u gwaith eu hunain yn ysgrifenedig ar y diwrnod.

Ar y diwrnod, dangosodd Alan Harris a'r myfyrwyr sut y gall pŵer y gair ysgrifenedig a storïau arbenigol, wedi'u seilio ar brofiad personol, helpu i ddatrys problemau sy'n ymddangos yn amhosibl i bobl ifanc.

When students from Denbigh High School and Blessed Edward Jones RC High School, entered a creative writing competition earlier this year entitled ‘Quirky Quilling’ to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, little did they know at the time that their wizarding scribbling would result in a truly unique, magical event involving a critically acclaimed writer visiting their schools.   

 

Alan Harris is an award-winning Welsh playwright.  His play ‘A Good Night Out in the Valleys’ launched the new National Theatre Wales and he has worked with theatre companies throughout the United Kingdom.  He won a Judges’ Award at the 2015 Bruntwood Prize for his play ‘How My Light is Spent’ at the Royal Exchange, Manchester.  He also wrote ‘The Opportunity of Efficiency’ - the first international collaboration for National Theatre Wales with the New National Theatre Tokyo.  Alan has written several plays for BBC Radio 4 and Radio 3 and is part of the BBC Drama Room scheme for 2017.

 


On Wednesday 18 October 2017, students joined Alan Harris for a series of creative writing workshops and were given a first-hand insight into the secrets behind the creative process.
 
Throughout the workshops, students were encouraged to think of themselves as writers and discover their own powerful, unique voices.
 
A primary aim and objective of the workshops was to stimulate students’ own creative thinking and to improve their own particular writing style and skills and, at the same time, emphasise how much fun and personal enjoyment they could gain from the experience

Alan Harris skillfully guided the students through a series of creative writing exercises in a thought-provoking and entertaining way.  The students experienced dynamic learning styles which included performance and storytelling, alongside written work, in order to introduce them to the key elements of building a story.  Students spent most of their time putting pencil to paper, trying out all the new things they had learnt.  At the end of the workshops, there was a wonderful opportunity for both tutor and students to share extracts from a selection of their own work written on the day.     
 
On the day, Alan Harris and the students demonstrated how the power of the written word and expertly woven stories, based on personal experience, can help solve often seemingly insurmountable problems faced by young people.

When Denbighshire’s Curriculum Enrichment Co-ordinator was set a challenge by primary school teachers to source an ICT specialist who could provide training to staff in “Raising Standards in English and Maths using Technology’, there was only one person they had in mind – Lee Parkinson, aka Mr P ICT – no one, but no one else, would do! 

 

What these friendly, progressive and enthusiastic teachers were specifically requesting was for Mr P ICT to share his unique ICT abilities, flair and apps with them, to put them on the right track digitally in Denbighshire.

 

Lee Parkinson, aka Mr P ICT, has been a Primary teacher for 10 years, where he has built up a wealth of ideas for how technology can be embedded right across the curriculum.  He provides training nationally and internationally for teachers and schools, looking to utilise modern day technology to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom. 

 

On his first visit to Denbighshire, he thrilled an audience of teachers at the OpTIC Centre, Glyndŵr University, St Asaph Business Park, St Asaph, in a day-long seminar, sharing ideas full of practical activities, which could be used straightaway in the classroom.  With specific links to the curriculum, the day demonstrated how, when used correctly, technology can not only engage but enhance literacy and numeracy.

 

Mr P ICT provided a training day, rich with tried and tested techniques to improve and enhance learning throughout a whole school.

 

With examples and lesson ideas, Denbighshire teachers left inspired to explore and showcase their own creative talents in the classroom, confident through having been tutored by one of the country’s leading practitioners in raising standards using technology.

Yr hyn yr oedd yr athrawon cyfeillgar, blaengar a brwdfrydig hyn yn gofyn amdan oedd  i Mr P ICT  rannu ei alluoedd TGCh unigryw, a’i ddyfeisgarwch ac apps gyda nhw, er mwyn eu rhoi rhoi ar y trywydd iawn yn ddigidol yn Sir Ddinbych.

 

Bu Lee Parkinson, aka Mr P ICT, yn athro Cynradd ers 10 mlynedd, lle mae wedi meithrin cyfoeth o syniadau ar gyfer sut y gellir ymgorffori technoleg ar draws y cwricwlwm. Mae'n darparu hyfforddiant yn genedlaethol ac yn rhyngwladol ar gyfer athrawon ac ysgolion, gan edrych i ddefnyddio technoleg fodern i wella addysg a dysgu yn yr ystafell ddosbarth.

 

Ar ei ymweliad cyntaf â Sir Ddinbych, fe wefreiddiodd cynulleidfa o athrawon yng Nghanolfan OpTIC, Prifysgol Glyndŵr, Parc Busnes Llanelwy, Llanelwy, mewn seminar am ddiwrnod cyfan gan rannu syniadau'n llawn o weithgareddau ymarferol, y gellid eu defnyddio ar unwaith yn yr ystafell ddosbarth. Gyda chysylltiadau penodol â'r cwricwlwm, dangosodd y diwrnod sut y gall technoleg ymgysylltu â llythrennedd a rhifedd , pan gaiff ei ddefnyddio'n gywir.

Darparodd Mr P ICT ddiwrnod hyfforddi oedd yn gyfoethog gyda thechnegau sydd eisoes wedi'u profi i wella addysg trwy ysgol cyfan.

 

Gydag enghreifftiau a syniadau ar gyfer gwersi, fe ymadawodd athrawon Sir Ddinbych wedi’u hysbrydoli i archwilio a dangos eu doniau creadigol eu hunain yn eu hystafelloedd dosbarth eu hunain, yn fwy hyderus trwy fod wedi cael eu tiwtora gan un o ymarferwyr blaenllaw'r wlad mewn codi safonau gan ddefnyddio technoleg.
